AMNESIA
This is the partial or complete loss of
memory. Old age and mental disorders presents various types of amnesia with
varying degrees. Names, words and everything a person has come across in life
soon become forgotten and recollection almost an impossible task. Verbal
amnesia is the most common form of amnesia where the patients forget names and
words
. A rare form of amnesia is the temporary loss of memory in which a person forgets even his own identity; name, age, family background and any remembrance of the past events.

Impairment of the brain cells has been touted
as the main cause of amnesia by diseases which affect them directly or
indirectly due to a poor blood supply caused by circulatory disease. Dullness
of intellect and weakness of the brain also results to poor memory although
many of its causes are largely psychological in origin like anxiety neurosis.
Injury to the head is another cause of temporary loss of memory.
HOME REMEDIES FOR
AMNESIA
Prescribed diet for amnesia patients must contain
phosphorus –rich foods like cereals, pulses, nuts, egg yolk, fruit juices and
milk.
USING SAGE
Herb sage has been found beneficial in
the treatment of a weak memory, it acts on the cortex of brain, mitigates
mental exhaustion and strengthens the ability to concentrate. A tea prepared
from dried leaves can be used regularly for this purpose.
USING APPLES
Phosphorus,
Vitamin B1 and potassium contained in apple helps in the synthesis of glutamic
acid which controls the wear and tear of the nerve cells. Eating an apple with
one teaspoonful of honey plus one cup of milk is beneficial in the treatment of
memory loss and mental irritability, acting as an effective nerve tonic and
recharges the nerves with new energy and life.
USING ALMONDS
Almonds preserve vitality of the brain
and cure ailments originating from nervous disorders. Immerse ten to twelve
almonds in water overnight with their outer skin removed, make into fine paste
taken alone or mixed with butter. Almond
oil is also beneficial in the treatment of brain weakness; inhale ten to
fifteen drops of almond oil through the nose, morning and evening.
USING
WALNUTS
This
is also another unique fruit capable of restoring normal brain function. About
twenty grams of walnut should be taken every day, the value of which is
enhanced if taken with figs or raisins in a proportion of ten grams daily.
USING BLACK PEPPER
Five
seeds of finely grounded black pepper, mixed with one teaspoon of honey are
also beneficial in the treatment of this condition and should be taken morning
and evening.
USING CUMIN SEEDS
Another valuable remedy for the
treatment of amnesia and poor memory. Three grams of cumin seeds should be
mixed with two teaspoonful of pure honey and taken twice a day preferably, in
the morning.
