Palestinian man killed in West Bank unrest

Israeli soldiers open fire during clashes with demonstrators near southern city of Hebron, killing 22-year-old man.

A young Palestinian man has been killed during clashes with the Israeli army in the southern West Bank, hospitals sources say.

Imad Jawabreh, 22, was hit in the chest by bullets on Tuesday, medics said, following the clashes on a main road near the southern city of Hebron.

Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab, reporting from West Jerusalem, said: "This incident comes after a tense day in the occupied Palestinian territories and in Israel as well."

The occupied Palestinian territories have been gripped for weeks by unrest triggered by Muslim fears of Jewish encroachment at the sacred site where the al-Aqsa mosque stands, a hilltop plateau known to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif, or Noble Sanctuary, and to Jews as the Temple Mount.
