Two men charged with terror offences for ‘helping 17-year-old boy go to Syria

Two men have been charged with terror offences for allegedly helping a 17-year-old boy travel to join the conflict in Syria.

Kaleem Brekke, 18, and Forhad Raham, 20, allegedly assisted Aseel Muthana, from Cardiff, in travelling to the war-torn country in February using a “recently obtained replacement passport”, South Wales police said.

Brekke, from Grangetown, Cardiff, and Raham, from Cirencester in Gloucestershire, will appear at Westminster magistrates court in London later.

The South Wales police assistant chief constable Nikki Holland said: “The issue is not unique to Cardiff or Wales and is a priority for police across the UK.

“While we do have our share of challenges, our religious communities here in South Wales are strong and constructive.

“We remain concerned about the number of young people who have or are intending to travel to Syria to join the conflict.

“The advice is to avoid all travel to Syria – anyone who does travel is putting themselves in considerable danger.”
